Man convicted of cruelty to animals

Convicted of cruelty to animals
In court on 10th January, a Tramore man was convicted of cruelty to animals and permitting animals to remain unburied in a case involving 25 horses.
The vet who attended the horses said his report could be summed up in one word “starvation”. A high proportion of the group of 25 horses were malnourished and carrying high burdens of worms and lice.
It was a pitiful and depressing scene.
One mare which later died had an abscess on her neck. A number of foals born subsequently had eye and leg abnormalities and after careful veterinary consideration, some were humanely put down.
The court ordered Seamus McElhinney to pay costs to Waterford SPCA and he was fined €250.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the many people who played a part in helping the horses on their way to a better life – without your help with transport, feed, accommodation, time and skill, it could not have been achieved. Thank you.
